What Gets Tracked Into San Miguel County Homes
San Miguel County sits in USDA hardiness zones 5b to 6b, with winter lows from -15 to -5 degrees Fahrenheit. The high desert and orchard country brings dry air, alkaline soil, and red rock in abundance. Soiling is worst year round here, not just in one season.
The culprit is fine alkaline dust and red rock grit, plus mineral residue from very hard water. These particles ride in on shoes, pet paws, and clothing, then settle deep at the base of the carpet pile. With every step, that abrasive material grinds against the fibers. This is wear, not staining, and vacuuming cannot undo it. The damage shows up as dull, matted traffic lanes that need professional cleaning to remove.
